Truman Medical Centers – Kansas City, MO

Truman Medical Centers (TMC) is a two-hospital, not-for-profit health system located in Kansas City, Missouri TMC uses Cerner Millennium for a variety of clinical and ancillary applications including pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, and ED. TMC previously had Cerner Classic and migrated to these Millennium applications.

TMC was using Cerner’s EMPI and Cerner’s ESS advanced patient record matching engine. TMC uses McKesson Star as its registration system and uses the Star CPI to populate Millennium as the corporate medical record number. TMC also uses the Cloverleaf interface engine to filter, translate and route HL7 messages.

Data Analysis of Cerner Millennium

Just Associates provided data analysis services on the Millennium database to identify potential duplicate patient records, overlap records and to assess overall patient data integrity.

EMPI Consulting

Just Associates reviewed TMC’s Cerner Millennium ESI/EMPI configuration settings and duplicate management process. We also evaluated Cerner Millennium’s ESI/EMPI configuration settings and related code set values, and we provided queries to help quantify and qualify the person records stored in Millennium to determine possible root causes for unauthenticated records and the duplicate person/patient records that existed in Millennium.

Additionally, we reviewed the interface diagrams to determine inbound and outbound messages. We also reviewed, clarified and confirmed the HL7 messages / triggers generated by STAR to Cloverleaf to Millennium, Finally, we identified duplicate record management issues and made recommendations for corrective actions to improve Millennium's ability to prevent data integrity errors.

Patient Access Consulting

Just Associates reviewed TMC’s patient access policies and standard procedures and observed actual patient registrations in several locations. Next, we documented and evaluated the patient access management processes, identified patient identity management issues at the point of patient registration and made recommendations for improvement.
